Jambo from Kenya! This year, we from HW Ingenieure were lucky enough to visit the UPENDO Children's Village near Diani Beach twice to support a very special project. The start was made by our engineers Rümeysa Kaya and Goizane Cuesta Galindo, who set off for Ukunda at the end of July to redesign the children's village laundry.
Rümeysa and Goizane, together with other HW colleagues, had carefully prepared a comprehensive list of services. On site, they coordinated and commissioned local craftsmen who carried out renovations such as painting the walls, renewing the roof and cladding the base with Galana stone. Even after her return, the project continues to be supervised from Germany and is now nearing completion. The before and after pictures of the laundry show an impressive transformation!
In October, our managing director Peter Fechner and his wife Anika traveled to Ukunda to also support the UPENDO Village. Together with local helpers, they actively helped with repairs and even produced bricks for the next project — a new employee house to be built in the coming year.
However, the time in the children's village was much more than just project work. Welcomed with great warmth, our team members were able to experience the open and loving atmosphere of the UPENDO Village up close. It was particularly important to them to bring International Women's Day closer to the children and to talk about the importance of strong women and the courage to believe in themselves. The days were marked by joint market visits, craft lessons, games and dancing — moments full of joy and community that will last a long time.
